We all experience times in life when it may be helpful to speak with someone objective. You may be processing a loss, a change in your life, navigating relationship issues, healing from the past, experiencing anxiety or low mood or identity issues. Or you may have found yourself at a juncture or crossroads, and be ready to explore the big questions in life. Whatever brings you to therapy, being able to share your feelings and experiences in a safe space - free of judgement, can be a transformational, and deeply healing process.
You may feel vulnerable taking these first steps - and that's completely normal. We'll work together towards your goals, with an approach tailored to your needs as an individual, in an environment where empathy, respect and empowerment are always present. In a nutshell - your needs are at the centre of this process.
I work with individuals across a range of different issues and starting points, but my specialisms include working with: anxiety, menopause, post-relationship healing, attachment issues, people pleasing and boundary setting.
I have experience working with bi-polar disorder and neurodivergence - including ADHD and Autism.
I work across theoretical approaches, including Person Centred, Attachment Theory and Transactional Analysis, also integrating tools such as mindfulness, breathwork, vagal toning, and neuroscience based interventions, when appropriate.
A little about the way I work:
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I work across different theoretical approaches to find the best fit for you as an individual. My underlying philosophy is rooted in Person Centred theory with an understanding of Intersectionality, this means:
I believe that the most healing part of this process is the relationship between counsellor and client (studies have also shown that the strength of ‘therapeutic relationship’ is generally the most important factor when it comes to a successful outcome in therapy)
I believe that we all possess ‘actualising tendency’ – the ability to become the best possible version of ourselves, given the right conditions
I believe in the power of being truly heard, seen and acknowledged without judgement, and that this in itself can be transformational
I believe in the uniqueness of each of us, working in a ‘phenomenological’ way; taking an interest in your individual experience of the world – and understanding that this will be different to the experiences of others
I work with awareness of Intersectionality, understanding the ways in which our "identifiers" - such as gender identity, race, age, sexuality etc can affect our experiences and the way we are perceived and treated by others.
I work in a non-directive way, so rather than telling you what to do, I will help you to explore the options available, so that you can be empowered to make your own decisions
I believe that counselling should be a collaborative experience between therapist and client; I welcome and encourage conversation about the ‘process’ itself, and the co-production of our sessions together
I believe that the therapy room should be an empowering space, in which you feel as though you are seen, heard and have a voice
I believe in the power of vulnerability, and that when we truly allow ourselves to be vulnerable – we begin to learn more about who we are
I work with all sorts of issues and starting points, including anxiety and depression, bi-polar disorder, ADHD and other types of neurodivergence, maternity, postpartum and fertility issues, pregnancy loss, perimenopause and menopause, people pleasing, boundary setting, confidence issues, attachment and relationship issues.
