What does PNCPS (accred) mean?
I am an Accredited Professional Registrant with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (PNCPS -accred), this means that in addition to having met the standards for registration (MNCPS - accred), I have also demonstrated substantial post-training professional development. This qualifies me as a column B practitioner in the ScopEd framework, which means I have achieved enhanced training, practice and competence requirements.
I regularly complete CPD and additional training - keeping myself up to date with best practice in the therapeutic community, and learning more about specialist areas, to continually improve my way of working.
I work with individuals across a range of different issues and starting points - so please feel free to get in touch, we can arrange a free video intro-call to see if we're a good fit for each other.
Working with neurodivergence
I have experience working with neurodivergence - including ADHD and Autism. You do not need to have an official diagnosis to explore your experience of having a neurodivergent mind in a neurotypical world - (so please don't worry if you are ‘self-diagnosed’ - you are the expert on yourself) and rather than make assumptions about what this is like for you, I'm interested in exploring your lived experience and perspectives (as the unique individual you are). Although this isn't one of my specialist areas, my clinical supervisor specialises in working with neurodivergence - so I am well supported and advised.
Theoretical approaches
As an integrative counsellor, I work across theoretical approaches - combining these to find the best approach for you as an individual, my theoretical approaches include:
Person Centred
Attachment Theory
Transactional Analysis
I also integrate tools such as mindfulness, breathwork, and neuroscience based techniques, when appropriate.
My philosophy and the beliefs underpinning my work:
My underlying philosophy is rooted in Person Centred theory with an understanding of Intersectionality, this means:
I believe that the most healing part of this process is the relationship between counsellor and client (studies have also shown that the strength of ‘therapeutic relationship’ is generally the most important factor when it comes to a successful outcome in therapy)
I believe that we all possess ‘actualising tendency’ – the ability to become the best possible version of ourselves, given the right conditions
I believe in the power of being truly heard, seen and acknowledged without judgement, and that this in itself can be transformational
I believe in the uniqueness of each of us, working in a ‘phenomenological’ way; taking an interest in your individual experience of the world – and understanding that this will be different to the experiences of others
I work with awareness of Intersectionality, understanding the ways in which our "identifiers" - such as gender identity, race, age, sexuality etc can affect our experiences and the way we are perceived and treated by others.
I work in a non-directive way, so rather than telling you what to do, I will help you to explore the options available, so that you can be empowered to make your own decisions
I believe that counselling should be a collaborative experience between therapist and client; I welcome and encourage conversation about the ‘process’ itself, and the co-production of our sessions together
I believe that the therapy room should be an empowering space, in which you feel as though you are seen, heard and have a voice
I believe in the power of vulnerability, and that when we truly allow ourselves to be vulnerable – we begin to learn more about who we are
